BURLINGTON

I grew up in Newton, KS and graduated from Newton High School.  

I attended Fort Hays State University and earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology.  After graduating, I taught and worked with autistic children at the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita, KS.  This is when I decided I wanted to become a teacher. 

I went back to school at Emporia State Univeristy and earned a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education.   

After teaching for several years, I again went back to Emporia State University and earned a Masters Degree in Education.   

I married Mark Engel in 1993 and we have lived in Burlington all of our married lives.    Mark teaches high school physics and chemistry.     

We have three children :

• Bret –  attended Burlington schools starting in 8^th grade.   He is married and he and his wife, Arianne, have two children, Madison and Kason.   They live near Wamego, KS.
• Kobie –  attended Burlington schools.  He graduated from Kansas State University in 2019 and is now working at Cobalt Boats in Neodesha, KS.
• Kylie – attended Burlington schools.  She is currently attending Kansas State University and is majoring in architectural design.   

As a family, our favorite things to do in the summer are to go camping and boating.   We love being at the lake.  

In the summers,  I enjoy gardening, cooking, and reading good books.   

During the school year, I am also a middle school volleyball coach, so I enjoy going to volleyball games.  We also enjoy watching K-State volleyball and football games when we get a chance.
